Marina Leonardi
Marina Leonardi (b.1970) is an Italian composer and teacher. She studied piano with Oria Dell’Angelo, and composition with Giovanni Ferrauto, Alexander Mullenbach, Eliodoro Sollima and Alessandro Solbiati. She obtained diplomas in piano and choral music. Since 1994 she has been Professor of Composition for Music Education at the ‘Bellini’ Conservatory in Catania; and since 2011 coordinator of the Department of Teaching at the ‘Bellini’ Conservatory.
She has written various chamber and orchestral works, some of which are published by Nuove Edizioni Neopoiesis, TEM-Taukay and Diaphonia. She is editor of several contemporary music publications published by Verlag Neue Musik, and editor of the Italian edition of the Elements of 18th Century Counterpoint by W.G. Andrews and M. Sclater.
Her music has been performed by prestigious soloists and ensembles including Sandro Gorli, Augusto Vismara, Maria Grazia Bellocchio, Graziella Concas, Laura Catrani, Sara Minelli, Roberto Carnevale, L’Offerta Musicale Ensemble, and Divertimento Ensemble, in important international festivals, including Festival Pontino (Sermoneta 2010, 2011 and 2013), Rondò (Milan, auditorium de “Il Sole 24 Ore”, 2012), and WoW Fest (Tel-Aviv 2016).
In 2014 she took part in the collective composition on Bach’s Verschiedene Canones über die ersten acht Fundamental-Noten vorheriger Arie (BWV1087), with Samuel Adler, Paul Moravec (2004 Pulitzer Prize winner), Alessandro Solbiati, Yoichi Sugiyama, Massimiliano Damerini, Marco Betta, Roberto Carnevale, Ruggero Laganà, Mario Ruffini, Andrea Ferrante, Daniel Seel, Luigi Manfrin, and Donato Di Pasquale.
