David Edwards

David Edwards was born in Alverstoke, Hampshire and studied at Goldsmith’s College in London. He worked as a music teacher for more than 30 years, during which time he held the position of Director of Music in 4 schools.

His main musical passion was working with young people, in choirs, orchestras and through ensemble and individual instrumental and vocal teaching, particularly exploring the possibilities of reaching those to whom the joy of music making might otherwise be denied.

He studied the concepts of Kodaly and Orff with Cecilia Vajda and others, and these experiences formed a backbone to his teaching.

He is an examiner with the London College of Music (University of West London), and in retirement spends his time examining, accompanying, composing and arranging, and playing the organ.

He is currently conducting research into class music teaching, with particular reference to Kodaly and Orff pedagogy, and aims to create a work to support today’s class music teacher.
