Fantasy for Clarinet in B flat and Piano.
Using techniques of motivic development, the octatonic scale and polytonality (among other things) within a shifting mix of allusive musical gestures and textures, a musical picture is built up, exploring the ideas and images contained in the little poem which prefaces the work. It was written for my friend and long-time colleague Jeffery Wilson. Suitable for advanced (Grade 8+) students or professional players, this freeform piece would make an excellent concert item.
